Paul has always been a sport about letting me shoot photos, but told me once that I always make him look strange or silly. Unfortunately, this is yet another one of these occasions.

I believe that the art and challenge of photography sometimes lies in knowing your equipment well enough to actually capture in a photo what one sees with the eyes. That can often times be much harder than it sounds. Other times, the art is to be able to distort an image in order to convey a thought or emotion.

Paul certainly doesn't look like this in real life. This image was derived from a split second in time when Paul was working on the computer. It was certainly a fleeting moment...the rest of the time Paul was himself, laughing and joking. Much of the work in this photo happened in post-production to emphasize this portrayed intensity...again, not reality.

I did promise that I would take a "normal" photo of Paul one of these times. So, I'll take that as an opportunity to practice that other side of the "art" of photography, to capture reality as it is.

Looks like he's watching a movie or tv.
