I'm sorry for all these hospital images but I seem to be spending a lot of days and nights here at the rehab hospital.
I was spending some time with some of the patients tonight. It was unusually festive tonight. The kids were in great moods and, well, being kids.
This is a Taylor frame. It is used to slowly lengthen a leg that is too short. The leg can be short for many different reasons but the procedure is the same...cut the bone, hold them in place with long pins, and pull the pieces apart slowly enough for them to heal. You can add several centimeters of length to that leg and give the patient a lot normal function. "M" is looking forward to a good football season, not this fall, but hopefully the next.
Anyway, I was amazed how much he seemed to have forgotten about this huge titanium device as we were just hanging out and laughing. He will probably have scars on his skin from the pins but with such a great attitude, I don't anticipate scars in his heart or soul.

Ohh looks painful, but you have said it all. "Attitude"!!! It`s the main component for taking this therapy to the end, having clear the main goal, wich seams to be, to have a great football season. I`m sure he is going to make it with taht determination!!

Can't wait to see him out on that football field. Such a great kid, just like all the others at the hospital. Someone commented here that the photo made them nauseous - but those kids weren't even slightly phased by the site. They were all too busy laughing and being kids to notice.
