Tonight was a celebration of family. As with most celebrations portrayed in my gallery, this one involves food. This time, it was Dad's favorite...lobster. Don Pepe has some of the largest and yummiest lobsters I have seen. They also have the silly bibs.
Tonight, I also watched Grandma scrape every bit of meat out of the inside of the lobster shell meticulously. She even ate the funky vicera. She left the meat in the lobster tail for last. And, in classic Grandma form, she refused to eat it. Instead she insisted on offering it to everyone at the table. When everyone insisted that she have it, my Grandma still didn't eat it. Instead, she had it packed up to bring home where, no doubt, she will insist on leaving it for someone else to enjoy.
My Grandma has made so many sacrifices for her family...more than I will every truly understand. I love and respect her for all that she is and does. One of my greatest regrets is that my Chinese is too poor to adequately express my admiration to her. Instead, I will honor her by not taking the last piece of anything at the dinner table.
