Alice and I took a sea kayak out and paddled around Kailua Bay. It is a magnificent place. We landed on Flat Island which is a small bird sanctuary in the middle of the bay. I came across this small memorial. Like the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial which we visited yesterday, this memorial was built in honor of someone lost. I’m sure it serves to help the person who created it to remember the person who passed. Also, it was likely built at this specific location to let others know that this place was truly significant for someone. So, even though the person memorialized has no face to me, she has helped me to find a little bit more significance in Flat Island.
