A pet peeve of mine..why do manufacturers produce so much stuff for us to recycle anyway? Most people see
the sense in recycling but we live in a world of disposables, which threaten to overwhelm us on this little ship called Planet Earth.
This styrofoam (expanded polystyrene foam) is a good example of a product that's rarely recycled because the process is very expensive.

So, I appeal to you, in addition to taking your photo today, please refrain also from
buying any product which has either unnecessary or un-recyclable packaging.
(and take a re-usable shopping bag with you :-)

There..I'll step off my soapbox now.

Totally agree with your "announcement". I am working in waste recycling in Hong Kong. Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is also a big problem here. Though recycled styrene can sell for a good money, but EPS is too light and the transportation cost is too high to cover. So, we are encourgaging people not to use EPS dining ware and packaging materials.

Couldn't agree more - our town has recently campaigned hard for recycling - for the council's own cash incentive, obviously - but now we recycle about 75% of our household waste.
I hate the feel of polystyrene - it sets my teeth on edge, and I HATE it when I open up boxes to find the object tightly packed into the stuff, especially pulling it out of the cardboard, when it makes that horrible squeaky noise!! Yeucch!! Good shot, Jean - with a valuable message.

I'm trying to think what happened in the old days with electrical goods before they had this white stuff. Your weather looks really grim up there in those hills, no wonder you've been ranting lately:-)
