As soon as we arrived at Brooks Falls via float plane from King Salmon, we had to attend a Bear Orientation from a ranger at the park Visitor Center. This stresses things like moving out of the way for bears, staying out of their way, and above all, do not run! After that we went to the falls. Then after coming back for lunch, we all headed back for the falls, but kept getting blocked by bears along the trail, so had to back up to the viewing platform near the river. Linda and Dixon eventually made it to the falls, but Janet & I ended up spending 4 hours at the platform. That really wasn't bad as there were so many bears there anyway. Next year this backup will be mostly eliminated as they will be installing an elevated walkway from the lodge to the viewing platform.
