First, we all were surprised how this block of ice was so nearly cubical.
When I used "Google Lens" on my phone, it identified the bird as a shore bird, possibly a Sandpiper. I then added the information that this was in Alaska, and it changed its identification to Kittlitz's Murrelet. Finally, I searched Google for Kittlitz's Murrelet and the image it brought up matched the bird perfectly!
It is found in the waters off Alaska and Eastern Siberia. This near threatened species is, like the closely related marbled murrelet, unusual for seabirds in not being colonial, nesting instead in isolated locations on mountain tops.
