Hanger 1 was built in 1933 for the USS Macon dirigible. Unfortunately, its sister ship the USS Akron crashed into the sea of the coast of New Jersey in April 1933 and the Macon crashed off the California coast in February 1935. These were Dirigibles, not Blimps which the Navy subsequently used. The hanger is now being restored and Google is paying for it, and to have 2/3 of the space inside for their jets and an upcoming Google Blimp.
