Janet had her two knee replacement surgeries in 2023. Since then she has wanted to give them a real test by hiking down to the boats at Crater Lake. We were all set to do so in August of 2024, but as we were driving to the park, we were notified that our tickets were cancelled because the dock was damaged in a storm and only one bolt was holding the dock to the shore. The park was then going to cancel all boat trips for 2-3 years while they did maintenance on the trail and docks. However, they decided to open the trail and boats for this season (2025), and then close Cleetwood Trail and the boats for 3 years to do more extensive repairs to the trail and dock. So, we finally did the hike down on the afternoon of July 11, took the boat tour, and then the long hike back up. The trail is 1.1 mile in length and 700 feet down. For us in our mid 70’s it was a tough trail, but we are glad we did it, and Janet had no problems with her knees!
Note: that at the end of the gallery, I included 5 photos from the time in 1973 that we previously took the boat tour!
