We had an errand to run up in the Seattle area, so we decided go to the Carbon River area of Mt. Rainier on the way home. It is in the NW corner of the park and the road only goes about 5 miles into the park. At that point the road is closed as it was washed out in floods about 10 years ago. You can hike/bike beyond the end of the road if you want, but since I was just a week away from having arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus, we only went on the .25-mile Nature trail right at the end of the road. Even that you had to do in two pieces as a bridge over a creek at about the halfway point of the loop is out. So, we had to go out and back on each side. This trail goes through a Temperate Rainforest. These are normally along the coast in the Pacific Northwest, but this is at Mt. Rainier which is quite far inland.
