Carrollton, a Monument to Egotism, Greed and Wasteful Government Spending

Carrollton, in Bridgeton, Missouri

The impressive Carrollton entrance, 4 lanes divided by a wide grassy median and this classic mid-century styled stone sign. That the eye-catching entrance remains after the neighborhood was destroyed struck me as ironic.

The City of Saint Louis removed every house in Carrollton, over 2000 homes in total, plus six churches, four schools and the community center, to make room for an unnecessary runway. But they left the sign at the entrance as if there was still a community thriving behind it, or a reason for anyone to go there.

Today the Carrollton entrance stands as a monument to egotism, greed and wasteful government spending.

Do you like the classic 50s look? It's due for a come back, you know.

My daughter is visiting a friend in Carrollton for a few days. She called last night. She said, "Mama you will not believe this place, it is really sad". Born and raised on a farm in Georgia, I'm thinking oh she is just really out in the woods. After our talk i surfed the net for info about this town and found your website. My heart goes out to you and your loss of home. My heart also goes out to those who still live their trying to eek out a living.

The city of St.:ouis and the Airport do not own the property on which the Carrollton Entry sign (Dare I say Monument)stands. If they did, It would have been removed. The equine derrieres responsible for this debacle would love to erase any and all reminders of what they have done.
