That's what I was checking because I have a large number of what I thought were Eastern Blue birds in my yard in Long Beach, Ca. My wild life book says western blue birds have a grey breast and these have a red breast. More of a full red breast then this photo but are small birds about 5 to 6 inches.

We have had blues nest in or around our home for the past 5-6 years. They started in a woodpeckers hole in our tree, now have three houses to choose from. A small flock getting bigger every year. They show up around December, nest March to even late June. La Mesa, CA
