Searching through my closet for whitish objects on a drab rainy day, I came across this copy of the New International World Atlas from 1941. It was my grandfather's before I salvaged it; he never made it further than boot camp in upstate NY, due to rheumatic fever, but his older brother was at Normandie. I find it an amazing snapshot of a turbulent time.

Strange to see it in colour, when I think of "map from 1941" I automatically go into black&white mode! Quite cheery looking colours too, must've been an optimistic cartographer :)

A very good idea
but should all maps have Grat Britain at the centre :)

Great image. Love the point of focus, Switzerland, says something about turbulent times.
