The twelve anaerobic digesters of the Deer Island Wastewater Treatment facility, which handles the
wastewater from 43 greater Boston communities. Each egg-shaped digester is 130 feet tall and 90 feet
in diameter. A 9 mile long pipe, 24 feet in diameter, takes the treated water out into Massachusetts Bay.
