Hurricane weather, part 3

North Providence, RI

Ok, so this might just be a pretty sunset. But Danny's forecast to hit somewhere near hear sometime on Saturday, as a category 1 (very weak) hurricane. That is, sustained winds of about 75mph.

In fact, the model average at 5pm put the track about three blocks north of me. Which means it'll probably make a sharp right and head out to sea instead. But, when the models are as close as they all are so far, the forecasters can be accurate -- they were pretty much dead-on with Katrina 5 days out, and this last one, Bill.

in my 30+ years of hurricane living, my first rule of hurricane forecast watching is: ignore them! you're intuition about where it's going will always be more accurate than their 500 wide "cone of death." weather forecasting is boring and the guys live for hurricane hyperbole. but just in case, stock up on duct tape, water, twinkies and spam.
