Starry Night

When Vincent realized the severity of his mental illness he left Arles and checked himself into a mental health facility.
While at the asylum he completed 150 paintings including this one.
Even though they are similar in subject matter and style there is a wild difference in the undertones.
A little over a year after he completed Starry Night Vincent shot himself in a wheat field.
Two days later he died from his injuries.

He left this life on such a sad note, but he left the world an enduring and beautiful legacy. A lovely image, Jane!

Immersive indeed. A fine photograph of the art experience. A perfect Van Gogh piece for this.

I can't image what it was like to experience this...

You have been able to document a vaguely surreal atmosphere here; the deck chairs and the people with the ubiquitous mobile phones, under the dramatic and desperate starry vault created by Vincent's genius really make us think.

He was a very troubled, but brilliant man. V

Another beautiful creation and image. Amazing how he could create so many inspiring/beautiful images whilst he himself was mentally ill.

tis painting is in a lower key, perhaps expressing a sadness the artist felt at developments...nevertheless the gallery scene is a relaxing one to sink into..

An interesting way to experience the art of van Gogh. The people seem to be into it. "V"

The people in the foreground are so well placed. The paintings and light that mirrors on the floor are a treat to view. I'm so glad that you, a skilled photographer posted these. "VVV" for all.
