Kiyomizu-dera (Temple)

Kiyomizu-dera is one of the most famous and also one of the most crowded temples in Kyoto. It is set against mountains on the Eastern side of the city and offers great views. It is famous for it's healing water and for the main temple hall that is built on the side of a mountain held up by criss-crossing wooden beams. Next to the temple there is a love shrine, which young couples visit prior to marriage for blessings.

This temple was one of the finalists in the 7 wonders of modern the world competition.

I first visited Kiyomizu-dera in 1998 and at that time it was just as crowded but mostly with Japanese tourist. This time there seemed to be more foreign tourist there.
