It's easy to underestimate geese. We know them from children's stories and perhaps the petting zoo...but these sturdy birds are a force to be reckoned with. Farmers in Holland kept "watch geese" to guard their yards from intruders. And those powerful beaks---they pinch hard!

This photo shows the geese as both big, pretty birds and determined guardians. Clearly these swan geese have you on their own watch list...and their beaks look pointier than most. Take the picture and keep on moving, sir!

A couple of them look like they have been in a brawl. That must be the boss Goose in front. : )
