Shidare Zakura on Sannen-Zaka

Higashiyama, Kyoto, Japan

This photo was taken during the Higashiyama Hanatouro of 2010. That year spring arrived a little earlier than usual and this particular Shidare Zakura on Sannen-Zaka (a narrow street with many traditional shop buildings near Kiyomizu-dera) was in bloom during the last few days of the Higashiyama Hanatouro, only about once every 5 or 6 years does it bloom during Hanatouro.

No matter what time of the year you come to Kyoto you really must take a walk down Sannen-Zaka, it's an essential Kyoto experience.

I love these traditional old, narrow and characterful streets.
I should be back in Tokyo next month, and hope to add time enough to see more.

It makes me wish I was there ... what an amazing part of the world you live in.
