Lake Biwa or Biwa-ko as it known in Japanese. Is the largest freshwater lake in Japan.
In order to preserve the environment of this beautiful lake there have been an number of laws passed to reduce the use of fertilisers in the surrounding areas and forbid the use of detergents containing phosphorus in house holds around the lake.
