I really like Stockholm – it is a nice city and there are lots of photo galleries that give a proof on its beauty. I would also say there is a thing like beautiful decay. Decay can also be just plain gloom – a feeling that certainly can be boosted with gray sky, fog and rain.

The pattern seems to be the same in most capitals – steadily increasing property prices and strong demand for space is forcing industries and “low profit margin” businesses out of town (and sometimes out of business). Where Stockholm used to have a decent number of industries, even in the inner city, most of them are now gone and several large industrial areas, workshops, rail yards, storage facilities and harbors have been demolished and replaced with malls, offices and residential areas.

The recent boom in property prices have triggered yet another wave of massive destruction and today, the only remains are either so contaminated with old industrial sins or the places are just located so badly that no one cares - yet…

Where old industrial remains out in the countryside can be really beautiful, the remains close to the city are typically aesthetically maimed by grafitti and urban exploration activities. Other places seem to be remains of the “non mainstreamers”, where large amounts of junk and odd scrap are collected.
