Pershyttan, with its mines Åkergruvan and Storgruvan happened to be the last remains of a once booming mining-, blast furnace- and foundry area with a very long history. Despite some heavy investments in the mid-1960s, the mining operations ceased in 1967. Today, a part of the mining area have been renovated and is open as a museum.
