A biting cold night at the dump

Good photo places are often worth visiting again. There are always details and views that are missed on the first visit and you tend to see it all from a slightly different angle the second time. In some cases, just coming back another time of the day or another time of the year makes the visit an entirely different experience.

In this particular case, almost everything changed in this respect. When I first visited this since long abandoned car dump, it was a green and warm sunny summer day. The contrast coming back a cold pitch dark night in the middle of the winter is somewhat total.

If you haven't been out in a Scandinavian forest at night in wintertime, far out in the countryside, I can tell you that the term pitch dark gets somewhat a new meaning when you turn off the flashlight. The silence is overwhelming and it is just like you wait to hear a wolf howling far away. Adding some warm light thaws up a frozen soul and adds some moody feeling :)

We humans can add just enough clothes to stay reasonably warm, but I must add that I'm very impressed with the gear that worked flawlessly for several hours out in the cold whereas my fingers occasionaly failed to obey orders. The backup camera body with pocket-warm batteries was never needed.
