The decline of Rimbo station started in the 1960s with passenger services disappearing and the Norrtälje branch closing in 1969. The "northern" part of the yard was fairly busy until 1977, when the Uppsala-Hallstavik freight services ended and these tracks were lifted. After that, only these tracks were kept to maintain very sparse passenger traffic on the remaining Stockholm branch.
Here, the yard is now all empty after the Stockholm branch was closed in January and the last remaining catenary wires have been removed. The tracks were lifted shortly after this picture was taken.
