There are several versions of the 35-80 Canon lens available on the market. Can you do the removing of the frontlens on any of the lenses?

I was able to remove the front plastic housing with lens. However, it leaves the middle lens exposed to dust and no way to fasten a filter on the front or lens cap. I did notice though in the remarks above that a few comments are suggesting that they have remedied this issue. How were you able to place the ring back on so that you could place the filter and lens cap? I also saw mentioned that the middle glass element could be placed in the front ring? How so. Thanks for any info.

I had a lot of fun doing the conversion, as someone mentioned earlier, I also put a filter to protect it from dust. The pictures I've taken are awesome!

If you keep the middle glass element in the front ring you still can use AF (needs aperture 16 at least to avoid CA).

can a beginner do this. I have old EF 35-80mm from my old Canon Rebel II film days.

I did the same modification but put the ring back on so I could put a filter on it to protect the glass from dust. It's a great mod at a low cost.
