The weather is quiet pleasant outside with the temperature “ALL THE WAY UP” to the high 50’s, (58 as I write this), so I decided to take the motorcycle out for a nice ride. It was very enjoyable, but even though it was near 60 degrees, I became a little chilled despite the wearing of sweatshirts in layers and my lined jacket. When I returned home, I found Gerie in her never-ending war with the fire ants. This was the mother of all fire ant nests, easily two feet across from side to side, and she proclaimed it the largest one she had ever killed. I don’t really know the history of fire ants, (I think I read somewhere they came up from Venezuela and found a home in the United States), but I do remember as a child some 40 years ago we had never heard of “fire ants” and their blazingly painful bites. I hate the things, but no more than my wife hates them! Every year she dons her “fire-ant-warrior-garb” and heads off with the mound killer and water to do valiant battle. I hope this year she’s more successful than she’s been in years past!
