Southern Fare – Aug 03

Tallahassee / Quincy, Florida

Home made cornbread in a cast iron skillet. Pinto beans that have been soaked overnight and slow-cooked all day in a big ol’ crock with a chunk of ham and seasonings. Serve it all up with a fresh crisp salad with home grown tomatoes and maybe some rice, … and the only thing missing is a nice back massage later in the evening. Yankees just can’t appreciate this kind of meal, but it’s been a southern favorite for over a hundred years. I grew up to this as the Southern son of Southern parents, and even my Yankee wife has come to enjoy it now.
God it’s good to be a Southern Man!

Bravo! This is one of my favorite meals of all time! (hubby and I are both from the South) I cook cornbread in the cast iron skillet that belonged to my mother's grandma.

Haven’t tried pinto beans or corn bread but I have to say that bread does look delicious.
