Tallahassee / Quincy, Florida

We had a little excitement this evening. Apparently the high winds of Hurricane Dennis weakened one of the huge pine trees in my front yard, and when we had a very heavy rain today the tree decided it had enough and came crashing to the ground. What was scary about it was my daughter was in her bedroom at the time and tree came down on top of it giving the roof a glancing blow. Had it been six feet to the left, it would have gone through the roof probably seriously injuring or killing both her and her friend Cassie that were in the room at the time. Here she is posing at the base of the 45 – 50 year old tree that was probably close to seventy feet high before crashing to the ground. Tomorrow Erik is bringing over his chain saw and I’ll grab mine and we’ll do that “guy thing” of being lumberjacks for the day sawing and hauling the dead tree to the back of the property.

To see how tall the tree was and how it shattered off the end of the house, click on the image below.
