What is this? 07-13-05

Tallahassee / Quincy, Florida

Contrary to popular belief, a guy DOES ask for directions when lost and a guy DOES ask what something is when he doesn't know. (It just seems that we're almost never lost and know just about everything, ... so women get annoyed.)

What is this? Every year this plant grows back in one corner of my property and puts out several of these vivid and huge red blooms. Frankly, I’ve never seen anything like it before, but I must admit that the leaves somewhat resemble the leaves of the marijuana plant. (Not that I would know about such things of course! Someone must have told me. Yeah. That’s right. Someone told me they look like that.) I’m stumped, … no one seems to know what this thing is, … other than some folks say it’s a strange variety of Mary Jane. Sooooo, … if you know what it is, please send me a note!

How can anyone think this beautiful flower is a weed? I love hibicus of any kind. I would love to have this growing in my backyard.

It's gorgeous with that vibrant red color. And it's nice to see a real man shoots flowers too. :)

Spelled it wrong--"wooley rose mallow"--hibiscus lasiocarpus. It is our parish (county) flower in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. It was chosen in the early 70's and I think someone else thought it was a type of "weed" also.

I believe it is a "wooly rose mallow", a member of the hibiscus family. Treasure it.
