The Vietnamese "Trung" stands here as a symbol for the many bamboo xylophones of Southeast Asia. The ancestor of the more solid, floor-based instruments used in the Gamelan and PiPhat ensembles comes from the diverse ethnic groups who have been living close to the actual borders for thousands of years.
