Two very nice iterineries in Hanoi, all within reach in a day's return trip: Halong Bay, and Perfume Pagoda. Try book the trip from a travel agent directly in one of the streets near the Weekend Night Market and Lake Area (they're open till about 10:00pm and usually have vacancies even that late in the evening for the trip next day). Hotel counters will charge you three, even four times the cost!
