IMG_5629 Sacrifice for the butterfly world

In the interest of increasing the butterfly population, I am not sacrificing these beautiful destructive creatures. I've been corrected - these are supposed to be swallowtails, not monarchs. They do resemble each other until you check the details.

Cool, now I know what they are. We had them on some of our plants just a few weeks ago. They are beautiful...creepy, but beautiful.

Wow, great closeup! Reminds me I should look at that one taken on our hike at Pearson's Falls! Helen

Wow, I wonder if there were several more around? I've never seen three together. :)

Yes, they are swallowtails. And I've sacrificed my fennel the last two years just for them (though they generally leave my parsley alone).

They are pretty even in caterpillar form.

Those are beautiful. Would have made a good entry for the bug picture this month.

How interesting Isabel! I have about 5 parsley plants and have never had even one of those. I know they are Monarch caterpillars for sure. Monarchs are migrating now to the CA central coast but they never stop over. Normally I get a lot of those ugly tomato worms but so far not a one this year, strange.
