_MG_8087 Finishing a Meal

It's been a couple of days since I've seen a mantis on the cucumber plant upstairs. I also noted there were no pests on the cucumber, so I moved a pot of eggplant with bug visitors closer to the cucumber plant so if the mantis was still there it could hop onto an eggplant leaf. This evening I discovered this "ginormous" (just officially added to the dictionary) baby and decided I would give it a name. It seemed to be finishing off a small winged creature. I'm glad it found some food and hope it continues to stick around. This is day 35 and "Ginormous" is about one and one-eighth inches long (exclusive of legs). I did see another mantis downstairs, but didn't get a picture of it. I continue to be thrilled with the performance of the internal flash in my Canon dslrs and how well they control the light output. The combination with the 60mm ef-s macro makes macro photography really a piece of cake if I can find something to steady my arms, since I still don't want to bother with a tripod. ALL focusing, by the way, is done manually. Autofocus with macros just doesn't work.
