_MG_0373 Paper Wasp

Note that the nest now has a "joiner". Here's a good link to learn more about paper wasp behavior: http://www.everythingabout.net/articles/biology/animals/arthropods/insects/wasps/paper_wasp/

Different time of day - different color! (Of course adjustable in Adobe Camera Raw). Just left it with the auto settings except for reducing the exposure a bit. I'm not quite ready to spray this nest because it's just too interesting to watch. Also, I highly recommend using the manual settings with the internal flash in your Canon dslr. It's just as smart as the Canon 430ex and 580ex. Only thing is with the XT/350 you're limited to a top shutter speed of 1/200 and with the 20D, 1/250.

Canon EOS 350D
1/200s f/7.1 at 300.0mm iso200 with Flash full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Good shot, now just get a ladder and your macro lens for one of those really tight close up shots. (just kidding)

Wonderful shot, but please be careful.

This is so interesting! How close are you? They seem to ignore you?

Very nice, can see all stages of larvae developement. If they are out of the way and not bothersome I would also leave them be also.

I don't blame you, what great subjects!
