Lemongrass cuttings

On a recent visit to my favorite Asian market I saw some lemongrass wrapped in plastic wrap. They were kind of yellow and didn't really look that robust, but I picked up a pack with the goal of going through Thai recipes when I got home.

As I was waiting for inspiration a video came up on my YouTube feed showing how you could start new plants from the bottoms of the stalks, so I thought I might give that a try.

I had 4 stalks that weren't the heartiest looking but put them in water. From the first day three of them started pushing up from their centers, and eventually those three grew roots.

Those shown here, placed in water 15 days ago, will be planted in a large pot outside so I can bring it into the garage for protection from freezing weather in the cold season.

I am finding this process very fascinating and hope to enjoy some lemongrass tea and using some in stir fries and soups.
