September 5, 2020

The large rhododendron in the back has been in that spot for over 20 years and has never had more than one bloom a year. When we re-landscaped a year ago we were told that the plants could really use a feeding. This spring I sprinkled food for azaleas and rhododendrons in this area and I just noted that there are MANY buds on that rhododendron. I also noted that the new rhododendrons that were rather pale looking are greener, but I suspect they are getting too much sun.

The red flowers are calibrachoa which love being in this area which, thankfully, has enough hours of sun to keep them blooming. We've had so much rain this summer that I've only had to water them a couple of times - they don't like to be dry - at least in hanging baskets. Those MUST be watered every day. In this area they are considered annuals, but I did have one overwinter and surprised me with early blooms. I thought I had taken out all the plants late last fall, but obviously, missed one.

This is such a beautiful garden, well-designed and clearly well cared for.
