These mating bugs seemed to have some sort of internal light - perhaps they had metallic shells? Agree with Christine (Larose Forest) that they're probably Japanese beetles.

These are Japanese Beetles as far as I can tell without seeing the entire insect, and they do have an especially beautiful incandescence. V
