NonDestructive Cropping "Hide" GrayedOut

I want to save the entire image content on a duplicate layer as required with the "Hide" option of the cropping tool in Photoshop CS5 and hide option is grayed out. This works for me on a duplicate layer in CS4. What am I doing wrong? Update: I thought I'd try removing the checkmark from the Perspective Box on the Options Bar. That did the trick. The Photoshop Help Files ought to indicate that you shouldn't have a check mark in that box.
