Marta Becket, a New York dancer, left the frenzy of New York and relocated to the remote, deserted desert town of Death Valley Junction and, in 1968, gave her first performance at the Amargosa Opera House. The murals on the walls and ceiling of the Opera House were painted by Marta and represent a permanent audience of diverse 16th Century theater goers. Now in her 80's, she still performs her classical dance and pantomime (except for the summer months) and continues to paint every day.
To see what she created in this ghost of a town is a real testament to her creativity and vision.
The following six images are just a sampling what what you might see if you're lucky enough to go into the Amargosa Opera House.
