Tim says it all -- the human figures give this scene not only its scale but its meaning. He is right, they could be the ghosts of all who have passed this way. They make the scene timeless. They will soon depart, just like the transient footprints you commented on today in my own dune image athttp://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/62016398 yet the great valley will remain for millions of years to come.
The shadows give me scale - and, while I know that they are the shadows of other photographers, the also are evocative, for me, of the ghosts who give this valley its name.
