The ancient city of Ping Yao, enclosed by a four mile long, 14th Century city wall, has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city wall is considered one of the best preserved ancient walls of its scale. The layout of the city dates from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The streets and storefronts, for the most part, retain their historic appearance and well peserved Ming and Qing style residences are quite extensive. Historically and culturally, Ping Yao is a fascinating city and the people who reside there are very friendly and engaging.
