The Louvre was originally built as a fortress in 1190, but later reconstructed to be a royal palace in the 16th century before the monarchy moved out to Château de Versailles. It was converted to a museum during the French Revolution.
The Musée du Louvre contains more than 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in eight curatorial departments with more than 60,600 square metres (652,000 sq ft) dedicated to the permanent collection.
Due to the large crowds and and the almost impossible task of actually photographing the artwork, I concentrated on shooting the various rooms depicting the opulence of the pre-revolution era. A few ceiling shots are included.
