Bodie, located in the Eastern Sierras, was a thriving gold-rush community of about 10,000 residents back in the 1880's.
At its peak, Bodie epitomized the "Wild West", with 65 saloons, numerous bordellos, and an alarming murder rate. When the gold and silver production stopped and the mines and mills closed, the town collapsed.
Only about five percent of the original buildings remain. Designated a state historic park in 1962, it is now maintained in a state of "arrested decay".
