Canon EF 35-105 f/3.5-4.5 push-pull zoom with Metal Lens Mount

When I had to send in my walkaround EFS 17-85 IS lens for service I grabbed my old trusty lens from my first EF-mount Canon 10s. According to the date code, this consumer-type lens was manufactured in November 1987 -- so it's 20 years old. Aside from the lack of wideangle (35 equates to a 35mm equivalent FOV of 56mm and 105 equates to FOV 168mm on a 1.6x crop 20D), I was very impressed by this old lens. There are no scratches and no dust in the lens. The design is push-pull and the front element rotates during focusing. There is a switch on the side to allow for manual focusing, but it is quite cumbersome by today's standards. Focus not as fast as Canon's USM ring focus, but similar to Sigma on their 18-200. In any case, focus is fairly accurate, which is what counts. Only after I examined the full-size images did I recognize I needed to clean some dust off the image sensor glass. Oh, well.

The following images when viewed in original size illustrate DPP 3.0 and 3.2 conversion settings of

1. DPP 3.0 Faithful with no sharpening
2. DPP 3.0 Portrait level 3 sharpening
3. DPP 3.2 Portrait level 5 sharpening
