These are the invasive plants that appear in spring along with native wildflowers in our open spaces.

Of course, the grasses in our grasslands are virtually all invaders. Occasionally one sees some native bunchgrass here or there, but those few exceptions only server to remind us of the
ecological disaster that has occurred: invasive annual grasses grow rapidly in spring, go
to seed and die off by mid-spring, leaving hills and valleys a light yellow-brown. The
depressing part is that these annuals have replaced virtually completely our native grass,
which stayed green well into summer; balancing this is the fact that we still have a great
bloom of spring wildflowers, although it is hard to tell waht has been lost.
