Speckly-eyed Syrphid Fly

Eristalinus aeneus

This is one of our most common flies. It can be found spring, summer and fall on many species
of plants, both native and exotic. This fly would appear to be a prime pollinator of wild
mustards, cresses and fennel, as well as our native buckwheats. Here is a female on milkweed.
