Honey Bee, Apis mellifera

Honey Bee, Apis mellifera, on California Buckwheat.

This one is not carrying pollen, indicating that it either just left the hive or is a drone. Drones
do leave the hive occasionally to fly around, defecate, get a drink or snack. On close examination
drones can be distinguished from workers by lack of a stinger; they also sound different in flight.

other sizes: small medium original auto
