Notre-Dame des Prairies

"Our Lady of the Prairies"
This church was constructed by the Tappists' (monks) in 1903-04 near Winnipeg Manitoba using local brick and stone. The trappists' moved in 1978 to a new site due to urban encroachment , an intrustion into their life of peaceful solitude. Fire gutted the vacated church and residential wing in 1983.

Growing up in Winnipeg south for a long time before moving to Moose Jaw, This place pictured here is one of my most favorite playgrounds. As a teen I spent many of long nights with friends roaming these grounds and the surrounding area. It was realy nice to see Shakespeare Being acted out amidst these beautiful ruins durring a recent visit.
