30 Minuites With A Model

You can shoot digital up to 50 shots
You can only shoot with available light
You can use a reflector but no flash
You only have 30 min’s
You have never seen the model.
Sounds pretty easy huh? I’ll let you be the judge of that.
I need to supply 3 8 X 10’s to the model….

I would have to pick 4 and 8. The light shadows in some of the pictures don't do the model justice.

Tremendous effort, given the constraints Mike!!! Here's my verdict 1,2,3 - sofa backdrop not my thing. 4 and 5 fanatstic - 5 is closer but 4 has the sultry look (4 is my first vote).6 and 7 - not so keen on the pose and they show a bruise on her arm. 8, 9 10 - really like the relaxed pose by the radiator and 8 has everything for me - nice look and no crop on the limbs(8 is my second vote). Not so keen on the look in 11 and the head angle in 12 looks a little unnatural. Love 13,14 and 15 - 15 shows a great look and has a fabulous 'S' shaped pose (15 - 3rd vote). 16 has a slightly lop-sided smile and 17 is a little soft. This is a superb job Mike on a very tough assignment!!

12, 9 and 5 (if you need a 3rd to do a 3/2/1 points system!) Very nice portraits, this is a branch of photography that is generally alien to me so don't really know of the problems involved, but it looks like you have done a good job!

All of these are technically good, although I find 17 a little too soft. Congrats - 30 minutes is a short sitting. Some specifics: 4 is a whimsical casual portrait which works well; 5 is similar but the smile makes the shot look a little contrived to me. 14 is also a nice casual portrait. The shots that do it for me are where you have created a connection between the model and the viewer 8 and 13 are good examples of this...17, even though it is a little soft, still makes a strong connection. 9 also connects but the connection seems to be psychologically painful. B&W was a good choice for this set. Overall very nicely done.

I think this is a very good effort Mike and I like almost all the images, except one or tow that are too soft for me. My favorites are 4,8 and 11. I like 11 best for some reason, but then who am I too judge, as I rarely take photos of people.

Thanks god you could have camera at all... what was that some kind of trivia? I think it's pretty adequate in black & white technique... voted!
