Old vs. new, past vs. present, traditional vs. modern ...we saw a lot of this in China. We saw so many cranes and scaffolds building the new China while the old China was just a few blocks away. This is the dichotomy of China and you captured it in this image.

Thank you Phil & Tim- China is full of wonderful juxtapositions! And yes, the weather blessed us with some great atmospheric conditions to take our images to a different level, didn't it!

Thanks Tim for pointing out the bigger division of the old China in my photo. I never consciously planned for it, but sometimes things just fall into place. Just looking at this image this time around, I have noticed that New Pudong has a very cold bluish cast whereas the lower 2/3 of Old Pudong is very warm in its colouration. I never intended for it to be this way, but I am lucky it turned out that way - it adds a new layer of meaning about the nature of the modern environment versus the charm of the old world.

I love the juxtaposition of the old and new - and the fact the the horizon line which separates them is in the upper 1/3 of the image - meaning the old still dominates the China we visited.

The sight of the sun breaking through the clouds over Pudong on our first morning in Shanghai was spectacular, and you made the most of it, Celia. This is a beautiful juxtaposition, made even stronger by the wideangle optics and the atmospheric conditions.
